You are here: Home / Pediatric Sinus Center / Sinus Surgery for Chronic Sinusitis

Pediatric endoscopic sinus surgery for chronic sinusitis can often be the most successful treatment for unresponsive or severe sinusitis.

Sinus Surgery for Chronic Sinusitis in Children

Sinus Surgery for Chronic Sinusitis in Children at the Pediatric Sinus Center, Dr John McClay

Pediatric endoscopic sinus surgery is a minimally invasive procedure which can reduce sinus infections, improve airflow, and alleviate chronic sinusitis symptoms by enlarging the connection between the nose and the sinuses to allow for proper drainage.

Polyps, cysts, and thickened mucus membranes may also be removed during ESS. Because other ear, nose, and throat conditions are often associated with sinusitis, procedures that may be performed at the same time as sinus surgery include:

  • Septoplasty
  • Adenoidectomy
  • Tonsillectomy
  • Tympanostomy

Your child may need to stay overnight in the hospital to be monitored after sinus surgery. Recovery from sinus surgery usually takes a few days until normal activity can resume.
